Sitting in church yesterday, my mind began to wonder as I read through 2 Timothy chapter three again. I must have read that passage a hundred times, but I usually focused on WHAT will happen in the last days. But I don’t ever remember reading in the context of WHO the people are who are doing those things. Thus, for the first time I actually read through the passage and made the application to the people I see around me today (in the last days), and I was shocked by what I found. The Bible perfectly describes your modern day atheists, liberals, progressives, democrats, luciferians/Satanists, and homosexuals. They all have the very same characteristics mentioned in this passage! It’s uncanny how the Bible shows who they really are!
Let's read the passage, and then look at it in more detail, and then you tell me if you don't agree.
2 Timothy 3:1-13
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
In the first verse we find Paul telling us something we should “know.” We should know that perilous or “dangerous” times shall come in the last days. Clearly, we KNOW we are in the last days. For without a doubt, times are now perilous with shootings, wars, mob beatings, thefts, etc., growing by leaps and bounds on a world-wide scale. Buy why is this happening? The answer is given in the rest of the text, for it is there we find that it is nothing more than the outward manifestation of the inward thoughts of modern godless man.
Verses 2 – 13 list a plethora of immoral people who exist in the world today and contrasts them with what a Christian should be. As we read the list, we find these same exact distinctives within the all modern anti-Biblical movements. Let’s look at them. Below I give what I wrote next to each one in the margin of my Bible.
Lovers of their own selves = Selfish
Covetous = Lustful, Desiring more, insatiable
Boasters = Braggers
Proud = Prideful
Blasphemous = Take God’s name in vain
Disobedient = Rebellious
Unthankful = Ungrateful
Unholy = Dirty (dirty minded)
Without Natural Affection = No love, or twisted love.
Trucebreakers = Promise breakers
False Accusers = Liars
Incontinent = Without Self Control
Fierce = Angry
Despisers of … good = Haters
Traitors = Treasonous
Heady = Reckless
High-minded = They think they are smart/right and everyone else is stupid and beneath them
Lovers of Pleasure = Lew, loose morals
Deniers of Godly Power = Athiest
Doesn’t this sound like the majority of depraved people today? I love the word the Bible uses of this group in verse 6. It calls them this “sort.” In other words, this “sort” of people are the cause of the perilous times we now live in. But it doesn’t stop there. The Bible goes further in describing this “sort” of hoodlum’s ultimate goal. It says in verse 7 that their aspiration is to enslave people or “lead” them “captive.” They are authoritarians, who want others to be exactly like them, and if not, to subject them to their wrath. We see this by reading verses 11 and 12, in which Paul mentions being “persecuted” by such people. These “perilous” people with “perilous” methods seek to “persecute” others who don’t follow them and their dogmas. They hate good, and love evil. We know this, because verse 13 calls them ‘evil men” who we are told will “wax worse and worse.” If they were ever good, they are no longer, and they will never change for the better, but continue becoming worse and worse.
Verse 8 further sheds light on these filthy people. It says they are ‘reprobate.” That means they are so far gone, they can’t even control themselves.
It further mentions that they “resist the truth.” They don’t want what’s right nor do they care about what is true. They want what’s “fun” and benefits them, and because of this resisting or rejecting of the truth, they are “deceived.” Verse 13 clearly shows this by saying of them that they are “deceiving, and being deceived.” Their sin has twisted them into becoming monsters.
Not only does the Bible tell us the cause of the current “peril” we live in, but it also tells us something more about these wicked people behind it. For in verses 25-26 of 2 Timothy chapter 2 (remember when the Bible was written there were no verse numbers, that means that the thought from the last chapter continues with the next chapter) we read of WHO it was who deceived these people and caused them to turn into “reprobates.” We read:
25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
Notice that before Paul tells us about what’s inside those people who cause the peril in the last days, he mentions that they have been “taken captive” by the Devil, and are “ensnared” by him. That is they are all followers of Satan. And they take pleasure in “instructing” others in the ways of their false god -- Lucifer.
In other words, they are Luciferians in their actions and ideals. Their mantra is the Satanic adage of “whatever feels good, do it!”
After studying all this, it is amazing to me to see how many in the world today are like those mentioned in the passage. Why are they like that? Because they chose to follow Satan, rather than God; and evil, rather than good.
Just look at the world today and what you find is a global teaching which produces such reprobate people. From childhood children are taught Evolution, and God is ridiculed and despised. As they grow up in the public schools, they are further taught “sex education” and encouraged to begin experimenting with fornication, homosexuality, and even beastiality. In college, they are indoctrinated to disbelieve the Bible, and a steady diet of communism is pushed down their throats. If they study for politics, they are taught the methods of Saul Alinsky, from his book, “Rules for Radicals” which teaches them to ridicule, attack, and persecute those who don’t go along with their anti-biblical agendas. (By they way, Saul Alinsky dedicated that book to LUCIFER!) As they work, they often find that they can gain more power and influence by joining organizations like the Masons, a LUCIFIERIAN society. So, they succeed by joining with others who live like they do and believe like them. And, as they grow older, they continue to deny the truth and believe a lie, even enjoying the lie(s) they have propagated.
Sounds like anyone you know today? If so, now you know WHO they are and WHO they serve, WHY they are that way, WHAT they are like, and HOW they’ve gotten into power.
The end of 2 Tim. chapter 3 speaks of the alternative of such people. Paul states:
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
This is so short, but so powerful! This is all that’s needed to end the “perilous” times. You need to know the Bible is given by God (vs16) and “learn” (vs14) it. Then you need to get saved (15), and then be a “man of God” rather than a “servant of Satan,” and live right and do good works (17). Reprove evil and instruct others in righteousness (vs16), and the “perilous” times will turn to peace.
